The reason that Americans are getting fed up with this war isn't the flawed intelligence that it was based on, as bad as that was, but the length of time it is taking for us to wrap it up and come home.
We assumed we would go in, grab Saddam -- to the applause of the Iraqis -- set up a democratic-style government, rebuild the damaged infrastructure, wave goodbye and leave. In and out. After all, there were "just a few dead-enders" left to deal with (according to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld), and the insurgents who remained were "in their last throes" (according to Vice President Dick Cheney). What could go wrong?
Sadly, it hasn't worked out that way. This is the problem for Americans: No end in sight. Right now there seems to be no honorable way to extract ourselves from the black hole called Iraq that is sucking the life out of our country.
