Letter: Zoning law only as good as politicians
Monday, Dec. 5, 2005 | 8:30 a.m.
I had to laugh when I read that Henderson is looking at Clark County as an example of good zoning practices. A zoning law is only as good as the politicians' willingness to enforce it.
Consider Red Rock Station's decision to build a tower higher than that allowed by zoning law.
Rather than enforce its own zoning regulation, the Clark County Commission instead told protesters to have a sit-down with Station Casinos and work out a compromise.
Just outrageous! All these citizens wanted was for the law to be enforced, i.e., they wanted the county commissioners to do their job.
I hope that Henderson's city council shows more spine and actually enforces its own decisions -- otherwise, their zoning regulations won't be worth the paper on which they're written.
