Letter: Can’t compare war casualties, car wrecks

Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005 | 7:52 a.m.

C.H. Muchmore's Nov. 26 letter ("Maintain the right perspective on Iraq"), comparing traffic accidents to the casualties in Iraq, just blew my mind. Comparing traffic accidents to being blown to pieces by a bomb or being shot to death by a sniper is just wrong.

When we get into our cars it's voluntary, we follow the rules of the road (most of us). We don't worry about snipers or land mines or people with bombs strapped to their backs.

To even come close to equating the two is so wrongheaded I can't even comprehend that kind of thinking. Wake up and smell the gunpowder -- war is not driving to the mall.
