Flashpoint for Dec. 1, 2005

In case there is any mystery, Flip Homansky ended it Wednesday: He wanted to be reappointed to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. But the governor rebuffed him in favor of Reno businessman T.J. Day, a major campaign contributor. During a "Face to Face" interview, Homansky declined to criticize Gov. Kenny Guinn, who patronizingly praised Homansky's service. Homansky has been trying for years to make boxing safer -- if such a thing is possible. But he clearly was at odds with others. And now there is a commission-sanctioned safety panel that many fear will be a whitewash as money and power will trump safety concerns. Too cynical? Just ask Flip Homansky.
