Column evokes sports memories

My wife and I live in Springfield, Mo., but frequently visit Las Vegas and read the Internet edition of the Sun almost daily. I, too, remember Kansas City's Municipal Stadium ("A sad sight for anyone who appreciates baseball history," Nov. 21). My dad took me to a Blues game sometime in the early 1950s, probably a year or two before the A's moved to K.C. For a 7-year-old from Lamar, Mo., it seemed like heaven. The grass was so green and the fences so high and far away.
In 1965 a carload of us from the University of Missouri decided to attend opening night for the A's. We were running late and speeding on Interstate 70 and of course, got a ticket.
Charlie Finley had built a "Pennant Porch" to imitate Yankee Stadium's short right- .eld fence, and the umpires delayed the game until it was removed, which let us get there and not miss any of the game.
Charlie was sitting in the stands and we asked him to pay our speeding ticket. But he said that if he paid ours, everybody would be after him to pay speeding and parking tickets.

I stumbled onto Ron Kantowski's column on Kansas City Municipal Stadium.
My best friend and I did a five-year tour of all 122 franchises in the four major sports.
We called our project the Ultimate Sports Road Trip.
We make specific mention of the site of old Municipal Stadium on our Web site, and the marker which stands on the corner where right field once stood. I hope it's still there. We thought it was pretty cool that they would showcase their heritage in such a great way.

Soccer coverage is long overdue
Kudos to Rob Miech for covering soccer and some of its star athletes from the valley. It's long overdue and greatly appreciated. Herculez Gomez is a friend of our family.
Until recently, we had to find out about where he was playing from him. Not anymore. This is very, very exciting.
