Letter: Bush’s policies are indefensible
Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 | 9:04 a.m.
Has anyone else noticed how conservatives try to get President Bush off the hook for Iraq and the illegal immigration problem? We all know now that attacking Iraq was a blunder, but conservatives can't say that without criticizing Mr. Bush, so they claim that the Democrats are demanding that we leave Iraq, ignoring the fact that none of the Democratic leaders, such as Hillary, our Harry or Teddy, has done so. They have instead called for some sensible strategy of withdrawal, instead of the chaos that our troops are facing.
Illegal immigrants are a federal problem and President Bush is doing nothing about it. So, when Democratic governors Bill Richardson of New Mexico and Janet Napolitano of Arizona declare a state of emergency in their states, they are denounced by conservatives as doing it for political reasons.
Meanwhile, President Bush continues his five-week vacation, apparently oblivious to the constant toll on our GIs in Iraq, and ignoring the illegal immigrant problem. Democrats are such ingrates for pointing these facts out.
