Letter: Hospitals should support deal for medical center

Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 | 4:53 a.m.

WEEKEND EDITION

August 27-28, 2005

Local hospitals, instead of being concerned with the development of a meaningful health care education and delivery system, appear to be more interested protecting their bottom line by loading the dice in their favor.

Their efforts to kill the University of Pittsburgh medical center deal is a health care blow to every citizen of Southern Nevada. Chancellor Jim Rogers and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman have it right -- the center must be developed in the near future to serve the medical education and citizen needs of a growing population. The local hospitals should realize that instead of being competition. A teaching medical center is a vast resource to the community.
