Conference planned on women's health
The Loving Your Heart Conference, a free interactive women's conference on heart disease and stroke, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tuscany Suites, 255 E. Flamingo Road.
Participants will learn about proper nutrition, simple exercises, and how to reduce stress, all factors to help prevent heart disease and stroke in women.
There will be interactive workshops with demonstrations on nutrition and stress, exercise and yoga classes and blood pressure screening.
Dr. Cedric X. Bryant, chief exercise physiologist and vice president of educational services for the American Council on Exercise, will speak on the benefits of exercise in the prevention of health disparities. Dr. Yvonne Bronner, director, Public Health Programs, Morgan State University, is also a guest speaker.

Orchid Society will host special guest
Doug Conkin will be speaking on "Planning and Developing an Orchid Collection" at the Greater Las Vegas Orchid Society meeting at 2 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Nevada Garden Club Building at the corner of Washington Avenue and Twin Lakes by Lorenzi Park. Doors opening at 1 p.m.
There will be refreshments afterwards and plants for sale as well as plants to look at brought in by members that have bloomed them in Las Vegas.

The third annual Back to School celebration
will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Aliante, 2600 Nature Park Drive, North Las Vegas. The event will feature ice cream, animals that need caring homes, prizes, bounce houses, face painting, contests, games, information booths and concessions available for sale. University Medical Center's Family Resource Center
is hosting the second session of the Baby Sign Language class for parents and caregivers of young infants from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at UMC's Family Resource Center 1120 Shadow Lane, Suite B. The class is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged. Call 383-2229 to register.
There are spaces available for Camp Silver Pines,
Sept., 14, 15 and 16. The camp is specifically designed for active adults age 50 and older and is held at the County's Camp Lee Canyon. For more information on either items, call Kate Grewe at 455-7742.
