Traffic safety event set for Wednesday
Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005 | 9:30 a.m.
The Clark County School District will hold its annual traffic safety event at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Cimarron Road/Sapphire Beach crosswalk (near Kahre Elementary School).
Schoolchildren, with the assistance of Metro Police crossing guards and a School District bus driver, will demonstrate how to safely cross the street using a crosswalk and how to safely enter and exit a school bus.
Representatives of Metro and the district's Transportation Department will discuss a variety of safety issues involving children and traffic. Officials want to ensure that students arrive safely as they travel by foot, bus and private vehicle to and from school.
The safety event also will focus on traffic laws involving the loading and unloading of school buses as well as speed limits in school zones.
Although public schools do not start until Monday, the flashing school zone lights around Kahre Elementary School will be activated during the event, and Metro officers will be patrolling the area.
