PUC schedules public hearing on Southwest Gas rate hike
Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005 | 10:02 a.m.
The Public Utilities Commission on Wednesday will hold a consumer session on Southwest Gas Corp.'s proposals to raise Southern Nevada rates by $35.1 million annually.
The session is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Sahara West Public Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.
The sessions are required in order to give customers a chance to express their opinions on the rate case proposal. PUC staff and commissioners, representatives of Southwest Gas will be in attendance to answer questions and offer conservation tips.
Southwest Gas has requested a 2.8 percent rate increase, but regulators could choose an alternative method for calculating future natural gas costs that could push the increase as high as 13.4 percent.
