One killed, one wounded in gang shooting

Monday, Aug. 22, 2005 | 9:34 a.m.

One man died and another was wounded in what appears to be a gang shooting in northeast Las Vegas early Sunday morning, police said.

Shortly after midnight, Metro Police found two men in their 30s suffering from several gunshot wounds in the 2200 block of North Pecos Road near Carey Avenue. The two men were taken to University Medical Center where one man died several hours later, police said. The other man is expected to live, police said.

The Clark County Coroner's office this morning identified the dead man as Abel Naranjo-Ramirez, 36.

Metro gang unit detectives said the shooting was gang-related based on comments made by people involved in the shooting, but the two men who were shot had no gang connections or history, police said. Police refused to elaborate as to what was said prior to or during the shooting.

Police are looking for men in their late teens or 20s driving a mid-90s light blue, four-door Lincoln and a mid-90s dark colored Chevrolet or Ford pickup truck with a long bed.

Metro reported on Monday morning that no suspects have been arrested but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the shootings is asked to call Metro's Homicide Section at 229-3521. If a caller wishes to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555. If information provided to Crime Stoppers leads to an arrest and conviction in the case, the tipster will be eligible for a cash reward.
