Man seriously hurt in truck accident

One man was seriously injured and another suffered minor injuries about 9:30 p.m. Sunday when a pickup truck allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Vista Center Drive, Metro Police said.

The truck, a 2004 Ford F150 driven by Corey Morely, 44, was southbound on Vista Center Drive toward an intersection near Charleston Boulevard while a 2002 Toyota Sequoia, driven by Sergio Abello, 51, was westbound on Charleston.

The pickup truck allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, entered the intersection and was struck by the Toyota, according to Metro.

Morely was admitted to University Medical Center in serious condition and is now recovering in a private room at the hospital, UMC reported.

Abello, who also was taken to UMC, sustained only minor injuries in the accident.

Unattended bag forces evacuation

Employees at a Nevada Power Co. office near Las Vegas Boulevard North and Lake Mead Boulevard called North Las Vegas Police on Friday after finding an unattended bag in the middle of the lobby.

Police and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Bomb Squad members arrived at 1:33 p.m. to the building at 1737 Hunkins Drive to find out if the bag was a threat, North Las Vegas Police spokesman Tim Bedwell said.

Nevada Power employees and several nearby businesses were evacuated to ensure their safety, Bedwell said.

After examining the item, bomb squad members found out it was a diaper bag.
