Process OK’d on hiring firms to do checks

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on Wednesday approved a competitive bidding process to hire firms to conduct background checks of gambling industry employees and forensic accounting investigations of gambling-related companies wanting to do business in Pennsylvania.

The board also has been negotiating with three firms under the state's emergency procurement code to begin doing background checks for applicants for licenses to supply and manufacture slot machines. The board has already received 10 applications for manufacturing licenses, but has not begun accepting applications for any other class of licensee.

The board does not expect to license casino operators until next year.
