Golf-course ordinance introduced

The Clark County Commission on Wednesday introduced another ordinance meant to curtail water-draining golf courses throughout the unincorporated areas of the county.

Commissioner Myrna Williams, who is also president of the Las Vegas Valley Water District Board, is proposing to ban the construction of new golf courses for up to three years. The ban would be lifted sooner than September 2008 if drought conditions in Southern Nevada end.

Her proposal, made during Wednesday's zoning board meeting, came in partnership with a similar suggestion by Commissioner Bruce Woodbury, who introduced an ordinance on July 20 that would ban the construction of new golf courses unless they use 100 percent reclaimed water for operation and maintenance.
