William O. Byus
William O. Byus, 80, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Baltimore. A resident for 36 years, he was a retired Navy chief petty officer and World War II and Korean War veteran.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen L. Smith of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.
The family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association, 2785 E. Desert Inn Road, Las Vegas, NV 89121.
Howard Cheney
Howard Cheney, 76, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. He was born April 10, 1929, in San Diego. A resident for eight years, he was a retired purchasing manager for a water distribution company and a Korean War Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; two sons, Dale Cheney of Los Angeles and Phillip Cheney of Las Vegas; and one daughter, Marchelene Reznecek of Rancho Bernardo, Calif.
Visitation is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Road. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the LDS Alexander Ward. Graveside services will be 1:20 p.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.
Alvin B. Gershbein
Alvin B. Gershbein, 80, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born April 24, 1925, in Chicago. A resident for 26 years, he was a retired owner-operator of an air-conditioning company and a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Rome, and one son, Howard Gershbein, both of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 30 minutes prior to a 10 a.m. service Friday in King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
Rachel B. Pittenger
Rachel B. Pittenger, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, she was a retired bookkeeper for a funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Gerre; two sons, Gerre Pittenger of Winchester, Va., and Paul Pittenger of Las Vegas; two sisters, Georgia Hulihan and Sophia Alexander of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 1 p.m. until a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Bridget's Catholic Church, 220 N. 14 St.
Ida R. Roark
Ida R. Roark, 83, of Las Vegas died Aug. 5 in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Coronado, Calif. A resident for 49 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon DiPinto and Helen Roark, both of Las Vegas; three sisters, Minnie Turner, Josephine Brown and Hilda MacDonald, and one brother, Theodore Riedlinger, all of San Diego; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Burial will follow in Eden Vale Memorial Park.
Charles A. Taff Jr.
Charles A. Taff Jr., 53, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born April 4, 1952, in Buffalo, N.Y. A resident for 18 years, he was a telemarketing salesman.
He is survived by two brothers, Kenneth Triggs and Phillip Triggs, both of Las Vegas.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.
Melvin R. Webb
Melvin R. Webb, 77, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Pasadena, Calif. A resident for 10 years, he was a tree service manager, a veteran of the Merchant Marines and a member of the Masons in Pasadena.
He is survived by one son, James Webb of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; two daughters, Susan Webb of Sacramento and Jeannie Matera of Las Vegas; two brothers, David Webb of Las Vegas and Donald Webb of Yucaipa, Calif.; two sisters, Geri Costello of Anaheim, Calif., and Cheryl Kartchner of Palm Springs, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.
