New police chief sworn in

Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 | 8:41 a.m.

Alan Kerstein was sworn in Tuesday as the new police chief of Henderson after the City Council unanimously voted to ratify the selection of City Manager Phil Speight.

Kerstein, 58, replaces Chief Michael Mayberry who retired in April due to health problems. He will earn $141,721 a year.

Kerstein, who recently served as chief of police for the Los Angeles School District, told the audience attending the ceremonies in the council chambers that enhancing community policing was a top priority. Kerstein started work on Monday.
