Names in the game for August 17, 2005

Tony Gwynn
San Diego State baseball coach Tony Gwynn signed a three-year contract extension with his alma mater.
Gwynn is 90-96 in three seasons and his teams have advanced to the title game of the Mountain West Conference tournament two of the past three years. He was the conference's coach of the year in 2004 after leading the Aztecs to a first-place finish in the league.
Marcus Williams
Connecticut point guard Marcus Williams was arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from the theft of four laptop computers from student dorm rooms.
Williams, 19, of Los Angeles, is the second member of the team to be charged in the thefts. Redshirt freshman A.J. Price was charged Friday.
Tracy McGrady
Houston Rockets forward Tracy McGrady could have been a slugger. Or so he insists.
He is notorious for bragging about his baseball skills, and he backed up the talk Tuesday night by warming up with the Double-A Mississippi Braves in Pearl, Miss.
McGrady homered twice during batting practice before he worked on his curveball on a bullpen mound.
"Just because I'm a basketball player, people don't think I can play baseball," McGrady said.
