136 arrested in sweep in and around casinos

ATLANTIC CITY -- A two-week sweep of Atlantic City casinos resulted in the arrests of 136 people on prostitution-related charges last month, State Police announced Thursday.

State and local police, using undercover male and female detectives, conducted sweeps inside and in areas just outside casinos from July 15 through July 29.

Of the 133 people arrested for prostitution, 78 were captured inside casinos. Three men were arrested and charged with promoting prostitution.

Each of the 109 women arrested was arraigned in Atlantic City municipal court and released on bail ranging from $1,000 for first-offenders to $2,000 for repeat offenders.

State Police also said the investigation determined that members of the Bloods street gang were running prostitutes in casinos and on the streets surrounding them.
