Iowa hands 51s fifth consecutive loss

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Ronny Cedeno blasted a two-run homer in the second inning as Iowa cruised past Las Vegas 7-2 Wednesday at Principal Park.
Cedeno slammed his eighth homer off starter Eric Stults (2-4). The shortstop was optioned back to Iowa on Tuesday after playing in Chicago for more than a month.
The Cubs hit up Stults for two runs in each of the first three frames to build a 6-0 lead. David Kelton delivered an RBI double, while Nate Frese, Richard Lewis and starter Carmen Pignatiello each hit an RBI single.
Pignatiello (1-2) allowed three hits and a walk over five innings for the win. Raul Valdes tossed three scoreless innings for his first save and Iowa's fourth win in a row.
Norihiro Nakamura collected an RBI as Las Vegas lost its fifth consecutive game.
