Pizza fundraisers to aid history book
Sammy's Woodfired Pizza will host a fundraiser every Tuesday in September to benefit the Las Vegas Children's History Foundation.
Proceeds will help fund the Las Vegas history book to be taught in all fourth grade classrooms in Clark County.
Sammy's will donate 20 percent of sales every Tuesday.
The Las Vegas history book will be a four-color hard cover book accompanied by an activity workbook, targeted to fourth graders as part of Nevada history curriculum.
Free bicycle helmets available
Nevada Land Rover will partner with Nevada Injury Prevention/ThinkFirst in providing free bicycle helmets for schoolchildren from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at the showroom, 5255 W. Sahara Ave.
The child must be present for helmet fitting.
Nevada Injury Prevention is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to prevent unintentional brain and spiral cord injuries.

Goldfield ready for celebration
The annual Goldfield Days celebration will be Aug. 19, 20 and 21 in honor of the arrival of the first passenger train in Goldfield in 1905.
A barbecue will be featured and a parade will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 20, followed by a live auction.
During the day there will be historical bus tours, antiques, food and drink, old west gunfights, a horseshoe tournament, old fashioned children's games, miners liar contest, video presentations of the railroad history, pet parade and much more. For information, call 485-3560.
Art show will benefit Safe Nest
Originals Arts and Craft Show (formerly Harvest Festival) will hold an art show from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 26 and 27 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 28 at Cashman Center to benefit Safe Nest.
The three-day show includes a donation drive to benefit victims of domestic violence. Visitors who bring a canned good (or other non-perishable food item) or paper product will receive $1 off the cost of general admission. All donations collected will go directly to women and children in Safe Nest's shelter.
Admission is $7.50; $6.50 for seniors; $4 for ages 13-17; free for children under 12.

Nevada Senior Coalition, a non-profit group
concerned with crime, taxes, prescriptions, traffic, immigration and legislation, will present guest speaker James Deacon, retired head of UNLV environmental studies at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 at Boulder Station. Deacon will discuss water problems. The public is invited to attend. Call 737-1377.
