Scientific Games selected to provide lottery games

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Lottery Commission on Tuesday picked Scientific Games Corp. as the state's first provider of lottery games and also voted to allow local vendors to recoup 6 percent of ticket sales.
Jim Scroggins, executive director, said the value of the contract awarded to Scientific Games is estimated at _$6 million, with an option to renew for up to six years.
Scroggins said Scientific Games' bid was 2.73 percent of net sales -- "with the two or three options that we wanted to exercise." He said the second company in the running, GTECH, submitted a bid slightly less than 8.5 percent of sales.
James Orbison, chairman of the Lottery Commission, said the contract award comes 10 days ahead of the panel's deadline for choosing its top vendor.
"This will really help us meet our goal of having scratch-off tickets available for sale by Oct. 12," he said. Officials hope to have online tickets for sale by Nov. 10.
Lisa Lettieri, spokeswoman for Scientific Games in New York, said the company was pleased with the Oklahoma announcement.
"We feel this verifies our position as a worldwide leader in instant tickets and online lottery products," she said.
