Frequent-flier program altered
Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 | 10:35 a.m.
Southwest Airlines is tinkering with its popular Rapid Rewards frequent-flier program.
Changes announced today would enable program members to accumulate points for two years instead of one to earn free travel on the airline that has the largest presence at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport.
The company also announced today that it would eliminate blackout dates on which free travel can be booked, but will limit the number of seats available for award travel on its flights.
The 24-month redemption plan became effective today and the seat restrictions will take effect Feb. 10.
The airline also said it plans to develop an award "seat finder" on its Internet site to help members find dates and flights when award seats are available.
