Cintra says firms vying for AeroMexico, Mexicana

Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 | 9:09 a.m.

Cintra SA, the government-controlled company that owns Mexico's two largest airlines, said 11 groups of investors are participating in the first round of bidding to buy Mexicana Airlines and 10 are vying for AeroMexico.

Those groups, including Mexican and foreign investors, that qualify will participate in a second round, Cintra said in a statement to the Mexican stock exchange. Cintra declined to name the investors and didn't say whether some of the groups expressed interest in both AeroMexico and Mexicana.

Cintra Chairman Andres Conesa has said the company plans to sell the two airlines separately by the end of this year. By law, the airlines must be controlled by Mexican investors.
