One killed, one hurt in shooting
One man was killed and another wounded in an apparent drive-by shooting on the 1800 block of Harewood Avenue about 3:30 a.m. this morning.
Both victims were in their early 20s, said Sean Walker, spokesman for the North Las Vegas Police.
He said police are still looking for the suspect and more details were unavailable early this morning.
Monorail reports record ridership
The Las Vegas Monorail had more passengers board the system last month than any other, the company reported Monday.
Roughly 18,000 more people boarded the system in July than in March, the $650 million system's previous record-holder. With 1.02 million riders, July was the second month more than 1 million people have ridden the monorail in a 31-day period.
July's figures were a dramatic increase from the 872,000 who rode the monorail in June, bringing in $2.5 million in revenue. Last month, despite the almost 33,000 people who boarded the trains, saw slightly less revenue than the $2.95 million that came in during March.
New monorail company President and CEO Curtis Myles said last month that ridership figures were "trending upward" toward initial estimates that indicated 36,000 people would ride the system each day.
Most-wanted suspect arrested
A 26-year-old San Francisco man, one of the 10 most wanted criminal suspects in California, was arrested Monday morning by the Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team in Las Vegas.
Rasul Gasery, a registered sex offender, was wanted by San Francisco police in an armed robbery and assault case.
Gasery and another person allegedly attacked a woman while she was in her car on Jan. 17 in San Francisco. The two allegedly struck the woman and then robbed her. She was pulled from the vehicle, which was stolen by one suspect.
The victim identified Gasery as one of the bandits, police said.
After a warrant was issued in February from San Francisco for Gasery, U.S. Marshals learned that he had fled to Las Vegas.
In addition to armed robbery and assault, Gasery is charged with serious bodily injury, being a felon in possession of a firearm and car jacking.
