Special ‘Splash’ planned for LV history

Monday, Aug. 8, 2005 | 8:27 a.m.

Currently celebrating its 20th anniversary with a Centennial themed show, the Riviera's stage production "Splash" is expanding its commemoration of Las Vegas' birthday where all proceeds will help fund the first Las Vegas history book to be taught in Clark County.

The l benefit performance will be from 5:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Riviera.

The book will extend beyond the more publicized events such as Bugsy Siegel, Hoover Dam, the Rat Pack and Elvis, and include lessons on the Anasazi and Paiuted, the Mormon Fort, Spanish Trail, John C. Fremont, Helen Stewart, Southern Nevada's rich mining history, and much more.

The goal is for the book to create a relationship between students and families that will establish and promote Las Vegas community pride.

The Las Vegas history book will be a four-color hard cover book accompanied by an activity workbook, targeted to fourth graders as part of Nevada history curriculum.

The Las Vegas Childrens History Foundation will initially produce and distribute 25,000 books to Clark County schools for the 2005-2006 school year. Additional books will be produced and distributed every year to keep up with Las Vegas growth. Seating is $100; $150 for orchestra seats; $1,000 for a private booth that seats up to five.
