Letter: Bush should admit mistakes

WEEKEND EDITION
August 6-7, 2005
I wonder if President George W. Bush ever admits that he has been wrong? Economically, the only ones who seem to have benefited from his tenure are corporate CEOs and Wall Street brokers. Our national debt and negative balance of trade continue to grow. Our environment continues to deteriorate. His greatest mistake was invading Iraq. There were no weapons of mass destruction so he changed the reasons for the war.
After 9/11, our attack on Afghanistan was justified but he never finished that job. Where is bin Laden? He and his neo-conservative cohorts instead decided he could settle his score with Saddam Hussein. American servicemen and women are paying the cost for that decision -- more than 1,825 have been killed and more than 13,000 have been wounded.
It would be refreshing to see Bush own up to his mistakes, just one of them.
