An Internet research company that ranks the popularity of Web sites has listed VEGAS.com as one of the top 50 online travel sites.
VEGAS.com was ranked the No. 36 Internet travel site by alexa.com, a research site operated by amazon.com.
Alexa.com gathers information on a variety of Internet sites from various users who download and use the company's toolbar to rank usage and popularity.
The ranking prompted well-known travel writer Arthur Frommer to mention VEGAS.com in a recent column about the alexa.com list of popular travel sites.
VEGAS.com, operated by the Greenspun Media Group, a sister company of the Las Vegas Sun, can be used to book reservations to Las Vegas hotels and tickets to a several entertainment venues. The site also provides information about the city and its various attractions.
"Which are the most popular travel Web sites?" Frommer wrote in a recent column. "Are they also the most helpful? I think so. Millions of travelers can't be wrong."
Of VEGAS.com, Frommer said, "It's a model for Web sites dealing with any destination."
The alexa.com list of top travel sites places expedia.com at the top, followed by orbitz.com and travelocity.com -- three competing travel booking sites that offer airline tickets, hotel reservations and rental car options.
The No. 4 site is southwest.com, operated by Southwest Airlines, the busiest passenger carrier at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport.
