Brothers sharing $11 million lottery win return to work

BROCKTON, Mass. -- Twin brothers James and John Daly shared an $11 million lottery prize and co-own a machine shop. But now they are back to doing what they truly love -- working as maintenance workers for the Brockton schools.

The 55-year-old brothers, both Brockton natives, quit their school department jobs shortly after winning the Mass Millions game in October 1992. They will split annual lottery checks of $415,451 for 20 years.

"We came back because we missed this place," said James Daly, who now lives in Norwell.

"We're born carpenters," said John Daly, who lives in Halifax. "That's what we do. We're working with our hands."

Mayor John T. Yunits Jr. was happy to welcome them back, saying the Daly brothers quit their jobs during a period of heavy city layoffs, allowing others to keep their jobs.

But some city councilors said they don't approve.

"I know that there were people who applied who live right here in the city of Brockton," Councilor Dennis Eaniri told The Enterprise of Brockton. "That bothers me."
