Henderson Police shoot woman who allegedly pointed gun

A Henderson Police officer shot and injured a 49-year-old Henderson woman who pointed a gun at police on the porch of her home Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Regina Hunt called 911 about 11:30 p.m. and said she was going to shoot and kill her sleeping husband, police spokesman Keith Paul said. She also said she would shoot anyone who approached the house.

A dispatcher kept her on the phone as negotiators and SWAT officers gathered outside the house on the 400 block of Tiger Lily Way.

As SWAT officers approached the house Hunt stepped onto the porch and pointed the gun at police, Paul said. A SWAT officer shot Hunt. She is being treated at University Medical Center.

Police have been called to the home for previous suicide threats and attempts, the most recent being in January, police said. At that time, she was taken for a psychiatric evaluation, police said.

The name of the officer involved in the shooting will be released 48 hours from the incident. He has been placed on routine paid leave.

The most recent officer-involved shooting in Henderson was June 21. A coroner's inquest jury is scheduled to hear that case Friday.
