As the state is preparing to rebate $300 million in surplus money, residents are talking about their plans for spending it. School Board member Susan Brager-Wellman wants to offer them another option. She is working on a plan that would give everyone a chance to donate their checks to the school district.
We like her plan. Many people might enjoy the opportunity to donate their checks to our schools and there should be a way for them to do it. Many critics of the rebate, after all, said the money should instead go to education.
Brager-Wellman will discuss her idea at Thursday night's School Board meeting. We hope her colleagues embrace it.
