County approves managers

The Clark County Commission approved three new senior managers on Tuesday.

The commission promoted fire Battalion Chief Steven Smith to head the Clark County Fire Department effective in February, and named Deputy Public Defender Elizabeth Quillin and Social Service Director Darryl Martin as assistant county managers.

Smith will succeed current Fire Chief Earl Greene, who will retire. His initial title will be Administrative Fire Chief as he transitions into Green's job, county officials said.

Quillin will replace assistant county manager Catherine Cortez Masto, who steps down Aug. 12 to prepare a run for state attorney general. Martin is expected to assume Assistant County Manager Virginia Valentine's duties. Valentine will take Assistant County Manager Rick Holmes job after he steps down in October to work for a major Las Vegas development firm.

County manager Thom Reilly announced the changes last week.
