Bike maintenance class scheduled

A basic bike maintenance class will be offered 7 p.m. Wednesday at Recreational Equipment Incorporated (REI), 2220 Village Walk Drive, No. 150, Henderson.

Participants will learn the basics about fixing flats, basic roadside repair and general bike maintenance for safety and performance. Master Tech J. Willis will review tire repairs, chain care, shift/brake adjustments and more. Call 896-7111.

Junior Republican Club meeting set

Teenagers are invited to the Junior Republican Club's meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. The meeting is open to all teenagers.

First Lego League forming in LV

Children ages 6-14 are invited to participate in Las Vegas' First Lego League events. Teams are now forming for the competitive program. A community open house for interested students and their families will begin 9 a.m. Aug. 11 in the principal's conference area at Cimarron-Memorial High School, 2301 N. Tenaya Way.

Participants in the First Lego League Challenge (for ages 9-14) will, over the course of eight weeks, research, design, build and program robots to solve real world problems, utilizing Lego Building kits. Younger builders in the Junior First Lego League (for ages 6-9) will work with a mentor to research a problem and design a proposed solution using Lego blocks and other materials.

FLL teams may be school-based, neighborhood-based or simply groups of friends ready to put their creativity to work and think like a scientist. CPR training classes to be held

Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First-Aid classes for ages 16 and up will be held at the following dates and locations:

Aug. 18: 5-8 p.m., Charleston Heights Community School, 6438 Celeste Ave., 878-8644.

Aug. 20: 9 a.m.-noon, Lied Community School, 5340 W. Tropical Parkway, 229-5072.

Aug. 24: 6-9 p.m., Robison Community School, 4794 Harris Ave., 229-2542.

Aug. 26: 6-9 p.m., Becker Community School, 9110 Hillpointe Road, 229-2482.

Aug. 30: 5-8 p.m., Molasky Community School, 7801 West Gilmore, 229-5345.

Aug. 31: 6-9 p.m., Johnson Community School, 340 Villa Monterey, 229-6175.

Ground water exhibit on display

The Energy Department, National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Site Office, Environmental Management Program ground water display is currently on exhibit at the Amargosa Library through Aug. 10. The display addresses frequently asked questions regarding ground water at the Nevada Test Site.

The public is invited to visit the display at 829 E. Farm Road, Armagosa. Library hours are: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday; 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday.
