Film series
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District presents the films "The Thin Man" at 1 p.m. and "Spider" (Rated R) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, as part of its ongoing film series. Admission is free. 507-3459.
Book signing
Local author Greg Lynn will sign copies of his book "Murder in Amber" from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Las Vegas Library, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Admission is free. 507-3514.
Cinco de Mayo
The following events are planned this week to celebrate Cinco de Mayo:
11 a.m. Thursday -- Cinco de Mayo luncheon at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road. Admission is $3 in advance, $5 the day of the event. 229-6454.
11:30 a.m. Thursday -- Cinco de Mayo celebration at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. Admission is $3. 229-1515.
Noon on Thursday -- Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Derfelt Senior Citizens Center, 3341 W. Washington Ave. Admission is $5. 229-6601.
Noon to 4 p.m. Thursday -- "A Taste of Mexico" free family fiesta at the Stupak Community Center, 300 W. Boston Ave. 229-2488.
Heritage Month
The following events are planned at area libraries as part the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District's celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. All events are free:
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday -- Asian Pacific Culture and Food Fair at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. 734-7323.
4 p.m. Tuesday -- Origami at Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.
Feast of Folktales, featuring a puppet show -- 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd., and 4 p.m. Thursday, Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive.
'Second Time Around'
The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary presents its annual spring luncheon and fashion show, "The Second Time Around," from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the Stardust. Admission is a $25 donation. 645-4281.
'Dia de los Ninos'
The Reynaldo Martinez Institute presents the 7th annual children's day, "Dia de los Ninos," from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Government Center Ampitheater. Admission is free. 967-2222.
Search for Talent
Young people ages 6 through 18 will perform in the 26th annual "Search for Talent" showcase at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Admission is $5. 229-6211.
Barbecue
Las Vegas will sponsor a pre-Helldorado barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Jaycee Park, at the corner of Eastern and St. Louis avenues. Admission is free, and free music will be provided. 229-4614.
Centennial events
The PostModern, 301 Stewart Ave., will host the following events to celebrate Las Vegas' centennial this week. All events are free. 229-4631:
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday -- Tours of the PostModern, formerly the downtown post office.
7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday -- Community conversations, featuring a panel discussion on Las Vegas' evolution.
Student showcase
Las Vegas presents a free student showcase from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the East Las Vegas Community/ Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. 229-1515.
Trivial Pursuit
The Community College of Southern Nevada will sponsor a "Nevada Trivial Pursuit" at 7:30 p.m. today at its Henderson Campus Auditorium, building C133. Admission is free. 651-3010.
'Reading Las Vegas'
The following events will be held this week to recognize "Reading Las Vegas," a month-long free reading program for adults ages 18 and older. All events are free:
