UNLV basketball assistant being wooed by Louisville

Wednesday, April 27, 2005 | 9:33 a.m.

UNLV assistant basketball coach Marvin Menzies spent Tuesday in Louisville interviewing with Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino for the assistant's job once held by former Rebel Reggie Theus.

Now the question is will Menzies, who has developed a national reputation as one of the top recruiters in Southern California, stay at UNLV or will he go east?

Head coach Lon Kruger said he may have an answer as soon as today.

"Right now there's nothing new to report," Kruger said Tuesday night before boarding a plane in Dallas, where he had spent the day evaluating some top junior prospects in the area. "I haven't talked to Marvin yet to see how things went."

Kruger hopes to know more today.

"I don't think this thing will drag out very long," Kruger said. "If Marvin was offered something, we probably will need to sit down and talk about it. If he wasn't offered the job, then there's nothing to really talk about."

Menzies didn't return phone messages left on his cell phone on Tuesday.

Theus left Louisville recently to become the head coach at New Mexico State University.

"They were evaluating my tape (on Tuesday) and said they would get back to us," Dorsey said.

However, Dorsey still hadn't heard anything from the Raiders as of Tuesday night. The Cincinnati Bengals have also shown some interest Dorsey.

Raiders head coach Norv Turner, who is close friends with former UNLV head coach John Robinson, attended several Rebel practices the last two years to watch his son, Scott, perform as a backup quarterback and should be quite familar with Dorsey's ability.
