Work detail awaits losers of spring game
Friday, April 22, 2005 | 10:08 a.m.
It may only be spring practice, but expect the emotions to be high tonight when UNLV holds its Scarlet vs. Gray game at 6 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium.
After all, there's a lot riding on the outcome, according to head coach Mike Sanford, a.k.a. the spring game commissioner.
"The team that loses is going to do some type of cleaning type project on our facility ... and that includes the coaches," Sanford said.
Defensive coordinator Vic Shealy will coach the Scarlet team, which includes quarterback Jarrod Jackson, running back Erick Jackson, wide receiver Donell Wheaton, cornerback John Guice and safety Joe Miklos. Offensive coordinator Noah Brindise will direct the Gray squad, which includes quarterback Shane Steichen, running backs JaJa Riley and David Peeples, defensive tackle Howie Fuimaono and defensive end Leon Moore.
The game will be split up into four quarters with part of the contest played with running time.
"We're only going to have a five-minute halftime," Sanford said. "I expect the whole thing to be over by 7:15."
Admission to the game and parking are free. A barbecue dinner with the team, catered by Memphis Barbecue, will follow and is priced at $12 for adults and $7 for kids 3-12. Children 2 and under are free.
