Remeron purchasers may recover cash

Wednesday, April 20, 2005 | 9:34 a.m.

Nevadans who purchased the antidepressant Remeron or its generic equal mirtazpine between June 15, 2001, and Jan. 25, 2005, may be entitled to recover cash based on out-of-pocket expenses.

All claims must be postmarked no later than June 13 in order to be eligible for a possible refund.

Nevada joined a 50-state antitrust settlement with drug maker Organon USA Inc. and its parent company, Akzo Nobel N.V., regarding the prescription antidepressant.

Attorney General Brian Sandoval and Consumer Advocate Adriana Escobar Chanos announced recently that a settlement was pending. The settlement is subject to court approval before it becomes final.

The state will receive damages for programs such as Medicaid, for example, that paid for Remeron or its generic equivalent.

Consumers may call toll free for a claim form and more information about the settlement at (866) 401-6807 or visit the settlement Web site at www.RemeronSettlement.com.
