Wind advisory issued for Las Vegas Valley

Clark County's Department of Air Quality and Environmental Management issued a wind advisory for possibly blowing dust in the Las Vegas Valley through Tuesday morning because of gusty winds.

Under windy conditions local clouds of blowing dust or valley-wide dust storms can occur. Airborne dust is a form of inhalable air pollution particles, which aggravates those with respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and asthma.

Children, the elderly and people with respiratory diseases are urged to stay indoors during dust storms.

If unhealthful levels of dust occur, residents can find out how severe they are by going to the Clark County Web page at www.accessclarkcounty.com and following the forecast link.

The National Weather Service said that winds between 15 mph and 20 mph are expected through Tuesday, with higher gusts possible.

The windy conditions will bring cooler temperatures to the valley. A daytime temperature of 68 degrees is expected today, a 21-degree drop from Sunday's high of 89 degrees.

There is a chance of rain in the valley and snow is possible above 7,000 feet in the Spring Mountains to the west of Las Vegas and the Sheep Range to the north.

The storminess is expected to move out of the valley on Wednesday with temperatures gradually warming to above normal, into the 80s for highs by Saturday.
