Public Works chief named among top

Las Vegas Public Works Director Richard Goecke has been named as one of the top 10 public works leaders of 2005 by the American Public Works Association.
His department has also earned the association's accreditation, the 23rd public works department in the nation and the first city in Nevada to earn the status.
The department plans, designs, builds, operates and maintains city public facilities. Goecke oversees 400 employees working in administration, city engineer, engineering integration, environmental and traffic engineering.
Goecke has served as the department's director since 1985.
The award will be presented to Goecke at the May 4 City Council meeting.
