Letter: Bush dedicated to destroying Social Security
Friday, April 15, 2005 | 9:09 a.m.
I'm writing to express my support for your March 28 editorial headlined, "Overhaul is faltering." The editorial criticized the president's plans to partially privatize Social Security, and criticized Bush himself for going around the country, speaking at town hall meetings and taking questions only from those people who have been pre-screened to ensure that they agree with the president.
Your editorial made clear all of the points that have been been troubling most of us senior citizens. The problem with George W. Bush is that being wrong won't stop him. He and Vice President Dick Cheney are dedicated to destroying Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid and all of the other programs that really help people.
They tried to sell us and AARP on the idea that privatization would have no impact on anyone over the age of 50. That is another one of their fabrications. Once they punch the trillion-dollar hole in Social Security, it will collapse along with Medicare and Medicaid. With the Bush administration in power, America is hopelessly in trouble.
I wonder how they would like it if we were to put their pension plans and medical benefits under Social Security. That would certainly help prop it up.
