The Community College of Southern Nevada is hosting a free technology, business and science expo for the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Cheyenne Campus.
The open house is designed to give potential students and their parents a peak at the high-tech training CCSN offers and the career opportunities those courses bring, spokesman John Kuminecz said. CCSN is working with the Clark County School District to bus students at a select number of schools in for the exposition.
The demonstrations also show off the work CCSN students and professors are doing, Kuminecz said. Employers will be able to review the the courses and programs offered at CCSN that they may want to take advantage of for their employees or that may produce future workers in their industry.
About 1,500 people came to last year's expo, Kuminecz said.
There will be exhibitors from the college's automotive, aviation, air conditioning and refrigeration, computer graphics and Web design, emergency medical services, engineering technology, photography, slot machine technology and veterinary technology programs, and displays from area business that support the college, such as Bechtel, Cisco System, North Las Vegas' Cheyenne Tecyhology Cooridor, Nevada Power and Sprint.
Many exhibitions will include demonstrations of CCSN's technology usages, including a rocket launching demo with a digital camera on board.
The CCSN Cheyenne Campus is at 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. west of Pecos Road. The event includes food booths, music and entertainment and free child care will be provided for children ages 2 to 5.
