Taxpayers would get a yearly report on how their taxes were spent under a proposal by Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, D-Henderson.
The report would detail money spent at the state, county, local and school district levels.
State money would be especially detailed, including the state's total revenue, expenses and expenditures and debt.
Perkins compared the report to one that a business would give its shareholders.
"We know it's impossible for government to run exactly like a business," he said. "But this moves us in the right direction."
The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and the Nevada Taxpayers Association endorsed the bill, saying it helps taxpayers and businesses to have a transparent government.
Joe Cain, who represented the Retail Association of Nevada, said his group supports "anything that gives taxpayers more information in this day and age of increasing complexity of budgets."
Assembly Bill 321 will go to the Ways and Means Committee.
