Moapa refuge looks for help
Thursday, April 14, 2005 | 8:15 a.m.
The Interagency Volunteer Program at UNLV's Public Lands Initiative is seeking volunteers from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday to help restore habitat for the endangered Moapa dace and several other native species at the Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
Volunteers will help restore habitat at the refuge by removing invasive species of plants that have altered the native habitat that the Moapa dace, a small minnow-like fish, needs to survive.
Participants will work in the warm waters of the Muddy River and are required to bring cotton work gloves, old clothes and shoes.
Volunteers need to register by Friday with the Interagency Volunteer Program by calling (702) 895-4890 or by signing up online at http://getoutdoorsnevada.org.
