Centennial event planned for blind
The public is invited to attend a Las Vegas Centennial celebration of the Nevada Council of the Blind 11 a.m.-3 p.m. April 23 at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. (at Stewart Ave.).
State and local agencies will be on hand with demonstrations of guide dogs, white canes, aids for low vision, and talking books. Watch kids and adults play beeper ball and goal ball while they are blindfolded. Clowns, live entertainment, carnival games, and food for purchase will be featured in the courtyard.
The event will also showcase a display of reading and writing tools for the blind along with a photo history of the blind community and its roots in Las Vegas. Call Diana Shelburne at 304-0512.
Free Centennial barbecue planned
Salute to Helldorado Days Centennial Picnic will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 1 at the Clark County Museum, 1830 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.
There will be free admission to the museum on this day only. The picnic features free barbecue while it lasts, live band music and entertainment for children. Activities include a Ferris wheel, train, pony rides and face painting.
The public is invited to bring friends and family and enjoy the afternoon. The event is sponsored by Clark County Parks and Community Services and the Las Vegas Centennial Committee.
