Tabcorp Holdings Ltd., Australia's biggest gaming company, will spend A$53.5 million ($42 million) refurbishing its Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast, amid increased competition for Asian gamblers.
The casino and gaming areas will be consolidated into a single, expanded floor and a live entertainment venue, new restaurant and balconies with beach views will be added at the 20-year-old casino, Melbourne-based Tabcorp said in a statement today.
Tabcorp is battling Las Vegas casino owners including Harrah's Entertainment Inc. and Las Vegas Sands Corp. which are expanding into Macau and bidding for a proposed casino in Singapore, for so-called high rollers, or gamblers who bet more than $1 million a visit. The value of bets by high rollers at Tabcorp's three Queensland casinos, including Jupiters, fell 40 percent in the first half.
