Seniors can get help on taxes
A program highlighting senior citizens property tax and rent assistance and property tax exemptions will be offered from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday near the Sears court the inside Meadows mall.
Questions will be answered and applications accepted for the programs. April 30 is the deadline to file.
To qualify for rebates of property tax or rent, applicants must be 62 by June 30; a Nevada resident Since July 1; own or rent property in Clark County (a manufactured home or lot qualifies); and have a total household income of less than $25,304.
New applicants must bring proof of age. Seniors must provide a copy of their Social Security 1099 form, proof of any additional income and a copy of their IRS return (if they file).
Renters must supply copies of their rent receipts for 2003.
The assessor's office administers these programs for Clark County residents. Call 455-4982.
Colby right-to-die lecture scheduled
Nathan Adelson Hospice will host a lecture "From Cruzan to Schiavo: What Have We Learned?" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Winchester Community Center, 3130 McLeod Drive.
The speaker will be William H. Colby, author of "Long Goodbye: The Deaths of Nancy Cruzan."
Colby, a lawyer who represented the Nancy Cruzan family in the first right-to-die case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court, will sign copies of his book from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will answer questions following his lecture.

Crime prevention workshop planned
A workshop that aims to teach senior citizens how to avoid becoming victims of crime is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Texas Station.
The workshop is to cover personal safety, telemarketing fraud, identity theft, Internet safety, financial safety, con artist awareness, and senior driving safety. Call 633-1059.
