Utility warns consumers of telephone scam
Thursday, April 7, 2005 | 11:02 a.m.
Officials with Las Vegas-based Southwest Gas Corp. are warning customers of a telephone scam.
The company said it has received reports of someone posing as a Southwest Gas representative asking customers for checking account information over the telephone.
The company said that if a customer receives a telephone call from company representatives, the employees will always identify themselves by name and, in most cases, they will call between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Southwest Gas representatives will not accept payments over the phone and do not ask for customers' checking account or credit card information.
To verify an employee's identity and the reason for any call, customers in Las Vegas should call 365-1555.
