RENO -- As plans develop for Reno's newest hotel-casino, opposition is forming as well.
Atlantis Casino Resort officials go before the Reno City Council next Wednesday with plans for a 201-suite resort and spa on the south end of town.
They will face opposition from parents of students at nearby Bishop Manogue High School who say a casino isn't an appropriate land use less than 1,000 feet from the school.
Atlantis parent company Monarch Casino & Resort Inc. is asking the city for zoning and master plan amendments to allow a hotel casino on South Virginia Street, just south of South Meadows Parkway.
While the request is only for those two changes, the company also is presenting some conceptual plans for a five-story, 201-suite resort.
