Police probe death of child
Monday, April 4, 2005 | 10:48 a.m.
North Las Vegas Police arrested a 58-year-old woman on child neglect charges after police were called to a home where a 14-month-old foster child was found Sunday with serious injuries.
The baby later died. No charges have been filed against Sallye Jones-Johnson in connection with the death of the child, who died at University Medical Center about an hour after she was found, Officer Tim Bedwell, police spokesman, said. Police this morning were still investigating the cause of the child's death, Bedwell said.
While at the home in the 3400 block of Fort Niagara Avenue near Alexander Road and Allen Lane on Sunday night, Bedwell said police found evidence showing Jones-Johnson had neglected children in her care. She was arrested on six counts of child neglect and booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center.
The coroner's office did not release the name of the child this morning, and Bedwell declined to release any further information until a cause of death has been determined.
