A Metro Police officer shot and wounded a man believed to have robbed two people at gunpoint Friday night.
Officers responded to what they initially were told was a domestic dispute in the 2200 block of West Bonanza Road about 8 p.m. Friday. When they arrived the officers were told by two alleged victims that two men robbed them at gunpoint at a nearby apartment.
An officer then tried to stop the suspect, who was not identified this morning and who police were told had a gun hidden in the waistband of his pants, police said. According to Metro, the man turned and reached for his waistband, at which point the officer fired twice.
A gun, which investigators said was discarded during the foot pursuit, was later recovered.
The suspect was taken to University Medical Center, where he was recovering this morning.
Police this morning had not confirmed his identity and booked him in absentia at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder on a police officer, two counts of robbery with a weapon, two counts of kidnapping, burglary and assault with a weapon.
A second suspect, 40-year-old Ricky Dollar, was charged with two counts of robbery with a weapon, two counts of kidnapping, burglary and assault with a weapon.
The Metro officer, whose name had not been released as of this morning, was placed on routine administrative leave.
