Commissioner doubts fallout from convention attendance

Radha Chanderraj, the Nevada Gaming Commission member who served as an alternate delegate to last month's Republican National Convention in New York City, doesn't expect to face any inquiries about that role despite a state law that prohibits commissioners from serving as members of political conventions.

Chanderraj said state laws are vague about the status of alternates in conventions and she is unaware of any further inquiry into her participation.

A spokesman for the Nevada Attorney General's Office said it is the office's policy not to confirm whether an investigation is under way. Nevada Gaming Commission Chairman Peter Bernhard could not be reached for comment.

Chanderraj, a Las Vegas attorney and accountant, said in August that she was unaware of the statute prohibiting members of the Gaming Commission from participating as delegates to political conventions.

Most industry and political observers said at the time that they believed her participation as an alternate may not have been a violation of the law and that, if there was a violation, it was inadvertent.
